In Odd Places
Help to rebuild student dormitories, Thai-Burma Border

This collection of songs celebrate the amazing work of AGORA Architects whose 2 award-winning locally-constructed minimum-impact temporary student dormitories were burnt down recently at the Mae Tao Clinic, Mae sot, on the Thai-Burma border. The stateless (and now homeless) students are now staying at the school awaiting while new premises are being sought.

More importantly it honours the stateless men and women from various ethnicities systematically oppressed by the Burmese Government for over 60 years. Their relentless search for self-determination and resilience in a foreign land is testament to the human spirit. Stateless people on both the Burmese and Thai side of the border have no other access to affordable quality healthcare except at The Mae Tao Clinic, founded by Sydney Peace Prize Winner Dr Cynthia Muang over 2 decades ago.

Funded by neither Burmese nor Thai Government, this place serves more than 100,000 people each year as an affordable local health centre, international teaching hospital, community health training network, holistic early childhood learning centre, and migrant children education provider.

Corruption, greed, human right abuses and even natural disasters may continue to tear the efforts of these men and women down to the ground, but thankfully there are those who believe things could and will be better. These are the ones who slowly chip away at injustice, give hope to the hopeless, and empower communities to realise their dream of a better world. These are the ones you don’t hear about on TV - the ones who’ve
